About SpeedTrapp

Drive smarter, together

SpeedTrapp is a community-powered platform that helps drivers stay informed about speed enforcement zones in real time. Here's everything you need to know.

How SpeedTrapp works

01

Community reports a trap

A driver spots a speed trap — police, fixed camera, mobile radar, or red light camera — and submits a report with the location and type.

02

Alert goes live instantly

The report appears on the live map within seconds, color-coded by type, so nearby drivers can see it immediately.

03

Community validates it

Other drivers upvote active traps to confirm they're still there. Each upvote resets the 2-hour expiry timer, keeping the map accurate.

04

Alerts expire automatically

Traps that aren't upvoted expire after 2 hours and are removed from the map, ensuring you only see current, relevant alerts.

Trap types explained

Police officer

A law enforcement officer with a radar gun or laser device, typically parked on the roadside or in a median.

Fixed speed camera

A permanently installed camera that automatically captures and tickets speeding vehicles.

Mobile radar

A portable radar unit set up temporarily — often in a van or on a tripod — that can be moved between locations.

Red light camera

A camera at an intersection that captures vehicles running red lights, sometimes combined with speed detection.

Community guidelines

SpeedTrapp works because our community takes it seriously. Please follow these guidelines to keep the platform accurate and useful for everyone.

1

Report only what you've seen

Only submit reports for speed traps you have personally observed. Do not report based on rumors or second-hand information.

2

Report safely

Never use your phone while driving. Pull over safely before submitting a report, or ask a passenger to do it.

3

Be accurate with location

Place the pin as close to the actual trap location as possible. Inaccurate pins reduce the value of the alert for other drivers.

4

Upvote to confirm

If you pass a reported trap and it's still active, upvote it. This resets the expiry timer and helps other drivers trust the alert.

5

No abuse or spam

False reports, spam, or deliberate misinformation undermine the community. Accounts found abusing the system will be suspended.

Safety first

Never use SpeedTrapp while driving

Check the map before you set off or ask a passenger to monitor alerts. Distracted driving is dangerous and illegal.

Obey all traffic laws

SpeedTrapp is an informational tool, not a license to speed. Always drive within posted speed limits regardless of whether a trap is reported.

Alerts are community-generated

Reports are submitted by real drivers and may not always be accurate or up to date. Use SpeedTrapp as one of many tools, not your only source.
